Long, horizontal form cut out and engraved with the Lion and Unicorn. The vertical front edge has the thistle. These are the symbols of the United Kingdom; England, Scotland and Northern Ireland (note also the harp symbol of Ireland). Iron frame with attached brass elements. Some old repairs and imperfections. We have left it pretty much as-is.
There are some areas with old lacquer that was used to cut down on the need for regular polishing. This may be removed with mineral spirits. The brass may then be polished to an even shine all over.
